Happy Friday!

Below is a picture of Lee & Joe Jamail Skatepark
Darren & Lauren went to this skatepark last Sunday and really enjoyed it.
I had to throw in the picture of Shaun White skating in our little skatepark.
Sweet!

Well the girl had a pretty good fall on one of the ramps and broke her glasses, so we will be going to the eye doc to get her some new lenses. Thankfully I put them on my vision plan because their military one doesn't cover anything here in Houston. I might as well have the boy get his eyes checked while we are there.
Steak & Shrimp!
Romance said he is grilling some steak and shirmp this weekend!
Sounds good to me.
(I hope my steak isn't that burnt...we like it nice and medium rare)
It is suppose to be a nice (hopefully sunny) weekend which means.......

Garage Trash Out (not my actual garage-mine is worse...yikes)
So, if it is nice and sunny outside the kids and I will be going through our garages and clearing out lots of crap. They have been used as storage (what was suppose to be temporary) and it has just gotten out of control.
Lauren also has a C*Stem Challenge funtion this Saturday, so she will be doing that. They have finished building their robot so I am not sure what they will be putting together on Saturday.
Then she has another field trip on Tuesday to go to another college campus for more CSTEM Challenge work. She is a busy little girl.
Have a good weekend!
Refresh your memory on what CSTEM is: Link Below.

PEOPLE! PAY YOUR TICKETS IN A TIMELY MANNER!

I was saved by the skin of my teeth (My Mom use to say that). I had a speeding ticket from WAY back in 2007 that has been in the court system the past 3 years. I had been to court 3 times for this ticket and got frustrated with sitting there all day (using up my vacation and personal time off from work) to be told, Mrs. Lobo (that is how old this is..ha ha) we need to reschedule. We have the afternoon dockets to call up and we can't get to you today. My attorney kept advising me to reschedule and fight it another day. I couldn't take it anymore. So I asked what else I could do to take care of this matter and put it behind me already. The judge informed me I could do a Defensive Driving course and have that turned in within 6 weeks and pay the small fee that goes along with it and it will be done.

SO..did I do that. NO! Why? Because I procrastinate (EVERYTHING).

So Saturday (2.20) I get pulled over and guess what! I have a Warrant for my arrest. Long story short: I am handcuffed and put into the back of the cruiser. I am thinking, "Well Laura, this will teach you to procrastinate". To my surprise {{SHOCK}} the officer tells me that he can call it in if I can pay it with my credit card and let me go. Thank goodness I had the $370.00 to pay it. So I did that and I was on my merry way. Only thing hurting was my ego and wrists!

This is my son doing his thing. This kid never stops making me laugh. I need a video of the things he does. He is great!

Winter Olympics are my FAVORITE!!

Apollo Ono is also my favorite!
He won his 7th Medal and has a couple more events to go.

The man is Hell on Blades!
My little sister and I were talking yesterday and she said she wanted to go to Utah to 'stalk' him. We use that term very loosely...cause we are not actual stalkers. I mean HELLO I have limited vacation time and 2 kids to take care of. Anyhow, when she said that it reminded me of a quote from one of my favorite movies. See below!
BLADES OF GLORY
"Hey Jimmy, I totally want to cut off your skin and wear it to my birthday...It's coming up!"
Bwah ha ha ha!

THAT IS NOT DOG PEE!

pThe Great Flood of 2010 p There is nothing more fun than walking out of your bedroom and feeling a wet spot on your carpet. Initially it was thought that perhaps Roxy, our puppy had an accident. I go into the kitchen and come to discover that we had a problem. My feet are under water up to my ankles and I can not figure out what the heck is going on OR where this water is coming from?!?
I was unable to find a source in the kitchen so I turned on the lights in the hall way (where I first stepped in a wet spot) and I noticed the carpet is also under water near my daughter's bedroom door. I open her door and could not believe what I was seeing. Her whole room was under water. I open her bathroom door and water is pouring out of the water line behind the toilet. What a mess!!
Lauren slept through all of this. It was still early in the morning so I turned off the valve behind the toilet, looked at Lauren and then sloshed my way out of her room and wandered back to bed. I am not sure if I was more in shock or if I just couldn't bear to think about what the clean up was going to be like. So that morning I took the kids to school and started making a bunch of calls to see who could come suck up all this water.
Next thing I knew..I had all this equipment in front of my house and total chaos was upon me.

I had literally talked to the kids the night before about buying Lauren a new bedroom set. Her current bed etc has been handed down from her brother and it is almost 11 years old. This bed has also been through at least 6 'moves' and another family who I had given it to and it was given back to me...don't ask. My thinking when I saw the flood waters in her room was..WOW, be careful what you wish for. I did have plans to shop for a new bed for her in the next couple weeks. I guess there is more of an urgency to get her something this weekend.
Yep, the kitchen had water damage too. I have never seen so many fans nor have I been in such a loud environment.

Needless to say, we certainly could not have made dinner at home. With 10 Fans Howling, a Dehumidifier Humming and giant trash cans collecting water, so my sweet Romance took us out for dinner and dessert!

~Who said Chocolate Cake doesn't solve problems~

So for the next 48 hours we will be living in a Wind Tunnel.

PS: Did I mention that my DRYER went out a couple days before the flood of 2010!
I found a new (to me) Dryer on Craigslist that is being delivered tonight, so thank goodness. Having a flood and no dryer = Wet and Stinky Mess!

OVERDRAFT FEES!

THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THAN LOOKING AT YOUR BANK ACCOUNT AND REALIZING THAT WHEN YOU RETURNED YOUR $1/DAY REDBOX RENTALS (ONE FOR $1.07 AND THE OTHER FOR $6.40) THAT YOU WERE CHARGED AN OVERDRAFT FEE OF $35 A POP, BECAUSE ANOTHER BILL THAT COMES OUT AUTOMATICALLY (WHEN EVER THEY FEEL LIKE IT FOR) FOR $40 BOUNCES. LAST MONTH THIS AUTO PAY CAME OUT ON THE 22ND OF THE MONTH SO WHY HAVE THEY CHOSEN TO DEDUCT FROM MY ACCOUNT ON THE 4TH???
$$
NOW I AM OUT 4 OVERDRAFT FEES. THAT IS $140 GONE.
WHAT A MAJOR DRAG. I NEED EVERY PENNY I EARN. I AM SO DISAPPOINTED AND I AM THINKING OF ASKING MY CREDIT UNION FOR 'ACCIDENTAL OVERWITHDRAWL FORGIVENESS'. EVEN IF THEY ONLY FORGIVE ONE OR TWO FEES.
$$
I AM SERIOUSLY SAD ABOUT THAT. I AM TRYING SO HARD TO CATCH UP FROM MEDICAL BILLS, CAR REPAIRS, KID EXPENSES THIS YEAR AND I JUST CAN'T SEEM TO CATCH A BREAK.
YEP, THERE IS NO QUESTION ABOUT IT, I WILL BE WORKING MORE OVERTIME.
$$
I REALLY HOPE MY CREDIT UNION WILL WORK WITH ME. I AM SURE THEY WILL. I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR 6 YEARS AND HAVE NOT HAD TO DEAL WITH THIS BEFORE. ALSO THE FACT THAT 2 OF THE CHARGES ARE FOR AN AMOUNT "COMBINED" LESS THAN $10.
UGH..FML!

TGIF! Movie and Tires....Noting unusual about that.

This morning was no different than any other morning. I woke...felt good, was on my way to work and I get into the car and pull out of the drive way only to notice that my little Cobalt is a bit wobbly. So I pull back into the drive way and what do I see. I see ONE very FLAT tire. Awe, crap. Go figure. I was so excited that I was going to be at work on time, nope. Think again. Luckily I have experience (more than any normal person) at changing tires. The guys at Discount Tire seriously know me by car as I walk in for service. I guess because my car requires high performance tires (the darn thing came with Pirelli's) they don't have much of a lifespan and I do my fair share of driving all over Houston. I have had this car for 4 years and I have to change these tires every 9 months or so. It is getting old. Anyhow, I changed that tire, dusted myself off, washed the dirt and grime off my hands and headed to work with a smile on my face. It feels good to be independent.
I am also looking forward to seeing my man "GERARD" this evening. Going to the movies with Gigi. Always fun. The kids will be with their grandparents this weekend so it will be a quiet one. I plan on catching up on my rest among other house hold duties that are screaming my name. (LAUNDRY---grrr!)

I hope everyone (Stephanie-my only reader...ha ha) enjoys their weekends. I know I will. Time to call Discount Tire. Oh, the bonus to this whole ordeal. The men at this store are very nice and very good looking. Maybe sometimes I get a flat on purpose, ha ha. Just kidding.

~Update on the Knee~

~The Doc~
I went to the doctor on Monday as you all recall. The outcome at this point is:

I am scheduled for surgery on Thursday, February 12th. I must arrive an hour before procedure and I was told the surgery would be an hour to an hour and a half. They are going to take some of my own ligament from behind the knee to repair my ACL. With that said, I will need to stay overnight for observation and will have my first rehab session afterwards, before I am discharged…OUCH!! I am not looking forward to it. I am still not sure how much my responsibility will be for this procedure. I complained last year because I didn’t use my Insurance for ANYTHING. Not once did I go to a doctor or get any prescriptions filled. I was thinking to myself, what a waste to have paid for this Health Insurance and not have used it one time. {Now that I think of it, I did use it for my prescriptions when I had my wisdom teeth pulled}. Anyhow, I am sure glad I have it now. The average cost of an ACL repair is $11,500.00 *Yikes*

The doctor also told me that I will need to come to rehab everyday for the first 5-10 days and I will be on crutches for the first 2-3 weeks. Sounds fun, no? He told me that I should be all healed up and ready to go by next year’s ski trip. I think I may attend the trip but will play more of den mother role. LOL

I think my journey is about to become a little more painful. I will require a lot of TLC! {milking it}. I am not sure when I will be able to drive, which is going to be the hardest part (besides the pain). I know the boy and the girl will be great nurses and will take good care of me.

Thursday Thirteen: My Ski Adventures in Aspen/Snowmass

1. Flying in/out of Aspen is nearly impossible, especially when flying UNITED {THEY SUCK}

2. Ski goers are very SNOBBY! 3. There is NO nightlife in Snowmass after 9:00 (even on a Friday evening and the XGames are in town...WTH?{Last Call} 4. Ski School is a waste of time if you are NOT over 60 and you HAVE skied in the past 40 years

5. A Hotdog and Cider will set you back $23.00 on the mountain

6. It snowed about 2 feet in 3 days which makes for great ski POWDER
7. Ski’s get caught up in POWDER and you get a ride down the mountain because you tore your ACL, another guy in your group does the same thing 20 minutes later
{Poor Bill never saw it coming either!}
8. $600.00 is the cost of XRAYS and a knee brace @ the clinic on the mountain
9. Drink heavily to forget the pain
10. One bedroom loft is $2300.00 for 4 nights, SERIOUSLY???
11. Bus ride to downtown Aspen is free and you even get a drunken college student’s slideshow of very inappropriate anatomy, imagine the movie STEPBROTHER, this was worse.

12. Eat cheese and crackers for lunch because your other “ski partners” are busy skiing while you are popping vicatin and icing your knee.
*

13. Return flight cancelled due to weather, pay another $150.00 shuttle to Denver, 4.5 hour drive to get to airport, rebook and recharged for luggage fee, eat dinner and go to gate to find out that flight has been cancelled due to mechanical problems. Rebooked to a later flight on another airline carrier. I was scheduled to be home at 4:00pm and ended landing in Houston at 11:30pm.

Let’s just say, Aspen/Snowmass is very pretty, but I’ll stick to Steamboat Springs!

Back On That Wagon

It is what it is!
(I am still somewhat convinced that this number can't be right, but either way, I have to get out of denial even if it is off by 3-5 numbers it is still too much for me to bear).
This is what it needs to be!

My 5 Years in Houston have not been very kind to my health. I am not quite sure why this is to be honest with you. I moved to this city November 2003 and use to see this number: 138. It seems I have managed to keep 10 more numbers a year to view on that thing you stand on. So, not because it is a New Year, but because I need to undo what I have done....I am back on that wagon.

Heart Broken & Confused

I don't want to get into too much detail, but being this is my personal online journal, I had to write something down today that has been weighing down on my heart.

I was out of town over the weekend, a short but much needed get away. I came home Sunday afternoon only to discover that one of my dear friends had packed up all her belongings and moved away. Not a trace was left of her...not a forwarding address, not a working phone number, not even a good email address. I have been worried about this friend for some time now and have always felt as if I should do more to make things better for her. I guess even though we may have the best intentions to help a loved one (a friend or family member) we may not fully understand what it is they need help with.

I guess the part of this whole thing that breaks my heart the most is I NEVER thought SHE would leave without at the very least saying goodbye.

I have played in my head over and over, WAS IT SOMETHING I SAID OR DID? but I truly cannot come up with anything. I almost feel like I wish it was something I said or did because then it might make some sense to me.

I picked up the kids from their Uncle's house and headed to the store...the kids and I shopped for birthday gifts for her two children-because they both had recent birthdays and hadn't yet had a party to celebrate. I found the last 2 seasons of FRIENDS and bought them with excitement because this was something my friend and I would do in the evenings together and we were about to finish the series. Only to discover that she is GONE.

Now I am worried....worried for what she is going through. Worried about the state of mind she must be in, to leave without a call/a text or a short note to say Goodbye....to say, she had to leave. To say she'd call me to let me know when she arrives safely.
I WORRY.

I wish I could stop feeling responsible for this whole situation. I feel in my heart that I did what I could do to help a friend in need. She had a lot on her plate. Single mother, finding her career path, a dead beat husband/father of her children, financial struggles, self esteem issues. No matter what her struggles are/were, she was such a beautiful person inside and out to me and those who got to know her and I will miss her always. I can only hope and pray that she is okay and that she will find her way back home...wherever that may be.

Please pray for my friend...her name I will not mention, but please pray for her and her kids.

Thank you!

Hurricane Ike Has Us Down: Still No Power!

IKE
(Taken from Stephanie's page: Just the Two of Us)

One of Hurricane Ike's first victim's was this historic restaurant, Brennan's of Houston. One of my most favorite restaurants in Houston. I have been here every year for my birthday, special events, Christmas lunches and a few dates! A fire took this fine dining establishment down and even a few people were injured. A friend of mine knew this was one of my spots...so she sent me a text and was like...Hey, Brennan's Burned Down..Just so you know. The mean thing...she was in the room with me..knowing I was in a bit of shock. I still don't know the extent of damage caused by this hurricane. I think those outside of Houston/Galveston area have a better idea than I do. Without power...I am unable to see all its fury. Maybe that is for the better. Things are starting to come back to life {it seems}. I am back at the office today and so much to do. As far as I know..everyone is doing fine...as best we can. My prayers go out to those who may have suffered any and all losses. Just thought I'd post a few pictures...MY week before Ike.
My birthday lunch @ Brennan's of Houston 7/18/2007 with the Ft. Worth Team! Ahh!
Banana Fosters...was good and fun to watch!
Who didn't love their Turtle Soup {I know it sounds strange..but it was MMM MMM good}.

Gigi & I went to the Astro's Game Tuesday night. We always have fun. The kids and I went to the Thursday night game...I will have pictures soon. It was a tribute to 9/11 First Responders. When they sang GOD BLESS AMERICA, you couldn't help but get CHILLS.
Just chillaxin & watchin the Ball Game!!
Lauren & her cousin Angel {Vampires}
Fun @ Hobby Lobby, silly kids!
