Darren's 13th Birthday

"13 Years Old"

Darren turned 13 on July 28th. My first born is officially a Teen. WOW! Being his birthday was on a Tuesday, we didn’t get to do much on the actual day. I felt bad that I had to go to work. (For Lauren’s 10th birthday we were in Colorado and went to Garden of the Gods and Seven Falls, followed by a steak dinner with our family, ice cream cake and gifts!). Anyhow, I got home from work and Darren said he wanted me to make him Spaghetti with Garlic Bread. Everyone asked if I was taking him out to eat and sadly the boy enjoys Mom’s home cooking more than eating out. *Thinking I need to cook more often*. Then I took him to Dairy Queen to get him his favorite dessert. His favorite is the Cookie Dough Blizzard…that is MY boy. For those of you who know me, know I can throw down some cookie dough, minus the ice cream.

So…this weekend we were going to go to Six Flags but I am just exhausted from being on the go. I have not been home for the past 4 weekends, so I bribed my way into staying home. How, you might ask. Well, I told the boy that if we stayed home this weekend, I would vamp up his bedroom. So we went and bought him a 19” TV (which was a birthday gift), an entertainment center, a new bed (he had bunk beds), a cool rug and storage for all his goodies and clothing and other decorative items. We shopped at IKEA, which is the most awesome store ever. Oh, btw..Lauren had a slumber party to attend so D and I got to spend some good quality time together-just the 2 of us. We had a lot of fun. Darren had to keep telling me "Okay Mom, lets go, we have enough stuff for now!". I was like, hey, do you want this trash can for your room, how about this lamp, or this mirror. Ha ha. He thinks I am nuts.

Note: Darren's bed looks much better than this plain picture: Better mattress's and Denver Bronco's gear!

So we tore up the carpet (it was old and funky in his room) and ripped down some lattice that was hung over the windows. Cleaned and cleaned and then put everything together. I have to admit, it came out better than I had envisioned. I was pretty proud of myself and you can just tell that Darren loves it. His exact words were: Being a teen is pretty cool.

Completed pictures will be posted tonight. It came out really cool. I am almost jealous.
I thought this rug was very cool because Darren is really into Guitars and Music and it kind of reminded me of that. Overall it was a fun weekend and I almost forgot how fun decorating can be. Look out, I may have to do the rest of the house now. :0)
